I have recently been honored by United Way of Morgan County as their game changer for January! This organization supports community service in my county and I am so grateful to be recognized. Below you can check out the video they created to highlight my project.
Fall School Supplies Arrive at Malaika
Over the first half of 2021, I was able to raise $600 to combat women’s illiteracy in the Congo. These funds went to purchasing backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and other school supplies for the Malaika students fall semester.
Sporting Equipment and Laptops
With the funds I raised during the past year, I was able to send various sporting equipment and 3 HP laptops to Malaika. These items arrived during March of 2021.
2020 Accomplishments
Despite the many obstacles 2020 presented, my project was still able to raise $1,000 for the Malaika School. With this, the Malaika School will be purchasing sports equipment and three computers in my name. These items have not yet arrived to the school, but when they do, I will share pictures!
Prudential Spirit of Community Award
My work through my project, Soak Up Education, has earned me the honor of being named one of two state honorees for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. Out of 21,000 applicants, only 50 high schoolers and 50 middle schoolers are selected nationwide, one from each state. I am beyond honored to be receiving this award.
Products at Reeves Peach Farm
I have been selling bath products at Reeves Peach Farm to promote my Gold Award and shed light on the issue of women’s illiteracy in the Congo. Today, August 3rd, I stocked my inventory for the last time this summer. So far this summer I have raised $992 towards my Gold Award.
Letters From the Malaika School
On April 3rd, I received Pen Pal letter responses from multiple girls at the Malaika School. This was a key component of my project, as it is directly promoting the literacy of the students.
